The admissions office receives many applications for the university and reviews them before listing the transcript as received. Applicants should see that there transcript is “Under Review”. This indicates that the transcript has been received and that the department can review it for admissions decisions.
The college of engineering has options for application fee waivers for domestic, US-based applicants which are sent out in the form of a coupon code. For more information: https://www.eng.ufl.edu/graduate/prospects/admissions/
Late applications will be considered depending on the class size of accepted students after initial review of applications received by January 15th.
The ME degree program is designed for students who do not have a BS or BSE in chemical engineering. The ME degree contains 3 extra courses at the UG level that prepare the student with the necessary background needed to pass the graduate level courses. The MS program is for students who have a degree in chemical engineering or for students who have taken courses that cover chemical engineering core curriculum. These decisions are usually made during admission, but can be discussed further with the graduate program director after you have started your coursework at UF. We can switch students between the MS and ME degree programs as needed.
Prior to submitting your application in full, email PhD-Recruiting@che.ufl.edu

Gainesville, FL 32611-4000, USAYES! We welcome applications from students with a variety of educational backgrounds into our MS program. Prior to taking the core graduate courses, you will be required to take 3 undergraduate courses to supplement your graduate education. These are assigned by Dr. Ziegler on a case by case basis depending on your BS degree and industrial experience. Waivers are not common, but may be considered for students with degrees in chemistry, general engineering, or other engineering disciplines with documented coursework (via transcripts).
MS students who are working in research groups should have a conversation with their research advisor and with Dr. Ziegler as soon as they come to this realization. Together, the research advisor and Dr. Ziegler will come up with a career strategy to help the student achieve their goals through a combination of discussions surrounding options at UF as well as support for applications to other institutions in the US or abroad.

Many UF faculty happily welcome MS students into their research groups. You can take up to 7 credits of individual work or 6 credits MS thesis research towards your MS degree. Once you arrive on campus, take time to email the faculty members you are interested in working with. Reach out to your peers and talk to PhD students about their work. Matching students with MS thesis advisors and projects is usually handled on a case by case basis. If you need help and are struggling to find a group to join, email grad@che.ufl.edu for help.
We do offer some of our courses online via the EDGE program. However, it will be difficult to complete the degree entirely online since our Advanced Chemistry and Biology Laboratory for graduate students is not offered online. Gainesville is a lovely city, with a very reasonable cost of living and a diverse population. Gainesville has an array of restaurants, parks, breweries, and outdoor activities. As a city, Gainesville values education and diversity, with spaces for people of different backgrounds to come together for common goals. Gainesville is home to the major UF research hospitals, including a cancer center, children’s hospital, cardiovascular center, and dental college. Gainesville also houses the North Florida Veterans Affairs (VA) hospital. There are plenty of things to do outdoors in Gainesville, including trail running and mountain biking, golfing, swimming or kayaking in the natural springs, and ultimate frisbee or disc golf. Additionally, UF has nationally ranked sports teams including gymnastics, volleyball, football, basketball, and baseball.
Gainesville is also about 1.5 hours from both the “Nature Coast” to the west where you can go fishing, scalloping, or swim with the manatees or the Atlantic Coast to the east, which boasts beautiful dog-friendly beaches. Gainesville is also a short 2-hour drive to Orlando, Disney World, and Universal Studios. Graduate students routinely plan adventures as a group that take advantage of all the things North Florida has to offer.
