Purpose
The goal of this laboratory exercise is to study the performance of a
binary distillation column while operating in continuous mode. The
continuous distillation column is also known as the West Column. The
batch distillation
column is known as the East column.
Learning Objectives
The main learning objective is to gain experience in fully
characterizing the behavior of a binary distillation column run in
continuous feed mode. To determine the column performance, one must
examine such parameters as the composition of the distillate and bottoms
product, Murphree efficiency, and heat transfer properties at various
reflux rates (total and constant). These parameters should calculated
theoretically using available computer programs and determined
experimentally from the column. |
