Purpose
The goal of this laboratory exercise is to study the performance of a
binary distillation column while operating in batch mode. The batch
distillation column is also known as the East Column. The
continuous distillation
column is known as the West column.
Learning Objectives
The main learning objective of this laboratory exercise is to gain
experience in fully characterizing the behavior of a binary distillation
column run in batch mode. To do this, one must examine such parameters
as the composition of the distillate and bottoms product, Murphree
efficiency, and heat transfer properties as a function of time for the
column run at various reflux rates (total and constant). These
parameters should calculated theoretically using available computer
programs and determined experimentally from the column. |
